‘Why my love for Jesus means I refuse to identify as gay’
- Article by the Christian Institute.
Finally a man who understands that struggling with same-sex attraction is no different than another believer’s struggle with lusting after his neighbours wife, or any other form of fornication which is not only contrary to God's will... but common to man.
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
God never made anyone gay [Genesis 1:31] but same-sex attraction, as with all other types of inconvenient desires came via The Fall, and this because of the work of Satan. The very reason God sent His Son that such might be resolved for those who believe.
1 John 3:8
The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.
Such men are my brethren, for the family of God does not consist of genetics, the colour of ones skin or our sexuality but that we are of the same Spirit. Those born only of the flesh are flesh, but being born of the one Spirit, though we are for a little longer still encumbered by this fallen flesh for the perfecting of our faith, makes no difference... we are all brethren because we are born of the same Spirit.
Children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
While we walk in this flesh we are tempered by the trials and passions of a fallen ancestry, but being born-again of a new Spirit we have an inheritance from above that is eternal. Praise God for this young man who though has been tainted by the fall, does not twist scripture to excuse lawless lusts... but as all his brethren takes-up his Cross to follow Jesus unto an inheritance that shall never pass away.
If you are struggling with inconvenient passions, that you think are unique to yourself you have been deceived into believing a lie... because Scripture says that such are ‘common to man’, meaning... common not only to the flesh but common to the very devils that having access through the flesh afflict our souls, if we who believe walk in it. If you are not born-again you have no choice but to walk in the flesh being only flesh, but if as this young man you know Christ, you now have a choice to either walk in the oldness of the flesh or the newness of the Spirit, both offering very different rewards.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
My heart goes-out to Christ’s brethren who struggle with same-sex attraction, for if I came to Church confessing that I was sleeping with my neighbours wife, watching my neighbour’s daughter undress through a hole in the wall or practicing some deviant sexual act I found difficult to stop... I have absolutely no doubt that every Christian in attendance would not only straightly warn me that I must take-up my cross and deny such passions... but praying fervently for my soul offer me every means of support. But if one struggling with same-sex attraction should do the same, I feel that most would either despise them or else inform them that God had made them that way, and so jolly them on their way to Hell, bringing upon God’s chosen a chastisement that can result in death, rather that God’s elect should misuse the body, even the very temple of the living God.
1 Corinthians 3:17
If anyone destroys God’s temple [Our bodies], God will destroy that person; for the temple of God, which you are, is holy.
When we who are referred to as ‘Straight’ consider how we have loved, and how having received such love greatly rejoiced... then we might understand and comprehend how difficult it must be for those attracted to same-sex if thereafter we had been informed that if we love God, we must break-off such relationships.
However those struggling with same-sex relationships should know that many of us do likewise suffer. Think not only of the adulterous relationship but incestious... or even those who in obedience to the text walk away from such love to seek the uncertainty of finding another, only ‘in the Lord’, because of their greater love for Christ.
1 Corinthians 7:39
A wife is bound as long as her husband lives; but if her husband is dead, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, ‘only in the Lord’.
Judah’s high places [2 Kings 14:4] and Northern Israel’s calf worship [2 Kings 13:11]
Might this man as every other believer fall or stumble at some future point? No doubt he very well ‘may’ at times, yet his battle differs nothing to mine or any other believer’s. For even the besetting sin of the high places of Judah and the Calf worship of Samaria that brought upon those two nations the heavy chastisement of God... was forgiven when the king repented [2 Kings 13:3-4]. But when there was no longer any repentance for besetting sins, those two nations were utterly destroyed and taken away. Thus God has made a way of return via repentance that must not be mocked, even a turning away from sin.
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
So if you are struggling with same-sex attraction and love the Lord, repent and if you later stumble to fall... not using it as a licence to sin repent again, and if necessity requires again and again but be quick ... hating even the thought of trampling the blood of the Cross underfoot until the iron is tempered. For you are our brethren and there is no difference between us, if as the whole body you repent, grieved by the sin that brings upon the righteous the heavy chastisement of a loving Father, then you are Christ’s and we are yours.
Again, praise God for this man and...
2 Thessalonians 5:23-24
23 - May the God of peace himself make you perfectly holy and may you entirely, spirit, soul, and body, be preserved blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 - The one who calls you is faithful, and he will also accomplish it.
To the one who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you unblemished and exultant, in the presence of his glory,
Yes some use repentance as a license to sin, whose damnation is sure, but the fiery trial that greets the repentant sinner burns as a furnace driving-out the filth that causes one to fall. Until that is, the new man appears fully armed, tested, tried and prepared ready for battle... that he might have confidence on that day that having the mind of Christ he might ask, and receive with nothing holding back.
1 John 3:20-21
20 - If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.
21 - Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God
Yes... I have so much compassion for those struggling with all types of sin whatsoever form The Fall may have laid upon them. But I have absolutely no time nor patience with those ministers who encourage those fighting sin, to lay down their cross and enjoy it.
They remind me of the circumcision within the early Church [Galatians 6:12] who though confessed to trusting in Christ, feared the persecution of the Jews who said they should keep the law and be circumcised, and so tried to cause those Gentiles who trusted in Christ to be circumcised with them. Thus in the same way these who want to enjoy their sin, encourage others to join them in their sin that they might not suffer persecution from the Church.
31 - They are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.
32 - Although they know the just decree of God that all who practice such things deserve death, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
