The Finer’s Pot

Job 23:8-10
8 - “Behold, I go forward but He is not there, and backward, but I can not perceive Him;
9 - When He acts on the left, I cannot behold Him; He turns on the right, I cannot see Him.
10 - But He knows the way I take; When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.”

The following was written by a great friend of mine, who as Job before him now finds himself tried in the finer’s pot. A place where troubled, any dross of doubt is forced to the surface where it can finally be dealt with and taken away. For looking past our humiliation God sees the man that through faith, will be forged from the finest gold into the beauty of His image, even of the image of Christ His Son.

Why Lord do you hide yourself from me?
Are you merely a figment of my imagination,
A willow in the wisp, a silhouette during the night?
Why don’t you give an opinion?
Show yourself and be real!

I search for you everywhere.
In the valleys and upon the hills.
In my bedchamber but where are you when I need you?
I call your name but you do not answer me.

Have I lifted-up my hands in praise for nought?
Sang sweet melodies to you for nothing?
Do I pray to the wind?
Where are you Lord? be real!

You say “Call on Me while I am near,
Seek Me while I maybe found.”
But where are you?
This feeble frame needs the confirmation
of a true and loving God!

This waiting for you is breaking my heart!
Show thyself that I may manifest the praise due to your name.
Give ear to my cry and I will be heard by you!

Any craftsman who purchases a tool will first try it to see if it can be trusted, and as an ex-tradesman myself I know this to be true. A hammer or a saw, dresser or trowel, each will be tried before being accepted into his toolbox. However, unlike men on Earth God will not give-up on the imperfect, but will with patient endurance bring forth that which is hid, even the jewel that is precious His sight. But first you must come to Him and answer Him when he calls [Matthew 22:14].

Not all need suffer such trials to attain God’s purpose in their lives, nor do all who suffer such things always suffer them for refinement’s sake. Yet as some clothes need a light wash, others the pounding of the dry-cleaner, for all must be made clean if they are to be accepted by the lady of the house, how much more so then must us sinners be made clean, who shall inherit the eternal order? And as every believer should know, it is far better to enter the house through fire, than to remain at ease only be be cast-out at the end.

1 Peter 1:6-9
6 - In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,
7 - so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honour at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
8 - and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
9 - obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.

But why are you still waiting at the door, how long is it now that He has been calling you?
Didn’t Noah cry-out night and day to a generation that had never seen rain? [Genesis 2:5-6], who mocking only believed at the sight of the downpour, soon after the door of the Ark had been closed tight?
Likewise is God not going to give you a sign either, who if you also refuse the preaching of God’s servants in this generation shall be left outside, as the heavens pass away with a roar and the elements are dissolved with fervent heat.

2 Peter 3:10
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

But I think better of you, for if a self-righteous ignorant man such as myself can humble himself before the mighty God, then I know that you too can break free from pride unto salvation. Many of whom I believe will through obedience, not have to taste the finer’s pot but rather the abundant life promised Christ to all of those who reverently fear Him and obey His commands.

1 John 5:3
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
