Again and again when I mention the events surrounding Christ’s return people reply by saying something like “I’ll hide me and my family in the caves and holes of the mountains”. And to some degree that is exactly what is already happening, for though they reject scripture thousands seeing the coming catastrophe are making preparations to survive it. Thus there is today a growing trade in underground survival pods as well as credible rumours which suggest that the elite are building underground bunkers where they hope to ride-out what they perceive is about to befall the Earth.
This attitude is clearly spoken of in...
14 - And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
15 - And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
16 - And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sits on the throne [The Father] , and from the wrath of the Lamb [Jesus] :
17 - For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
Speaking of that very day, whilst walking towards the Cross and His crucifixion... Jesus turned to His followers and said...
29 - For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps [breasts] which never gave suck.
30 - Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
He was pointing to the then soon destruction of Jerusalem, when parents should see the horrible suffering of their children as they starved to death, which is a type of the coming tribulations, when war, famine and horrors encompass the Earth as they did Jerusalem in 70AD.
Throughout history it is recorded that men have used their great wealth to purchase their lives, and as the rich of today gaze upon their bank statements, many still actually believe their money, position or belongings will purchase their lives for them if needs be. Many Jews did this during the second World war, as have others during enumerable other conflicts, however their is a notable difference when Christ returns.
19 - And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he arises to shake terribly the earth.
20 - In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;
The difference is that on that great day, people will finally realize that their wealth, belongings and whatsoever they had once trusted in, can in no way redeem their lives let alone save their souls. And the realisation of that truth is that they cast such riches to the ground as they flee. In fact, the following verse states quite clearly that it was their trust in such ‘things’, that caused them to reject Christ and carry-on in their sins in the first case, even Jesus who should have saved them.
They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumbling block of their iniquity.
And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answered again, and said unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
There is nothing wrong with being rich, nothing at all, the problem is trusting in deceptive riches. There are numerous rich yet godly people noted in Scripture, whose trust is not in their great wealth but in the Messiah [Christ Jesus]. An example of someone who was rich, and still remained rich even after he had broken free from trusting in his great wealth... was tiny Zacchaeus.
8 - And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
9 - And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. [Through Faith - Romans 2:28-29]
That is why Jesus commands us all to ‘die to self and live for Christ’. That doesn’t mean that a person should give everything away to live in a puddle and burden the state, but rather that if a person realises that they are trusting in their wealth rather than Christ, that they should earnestly seek God and petition Him that they might be set free from its deceptive grip... that failing, yes to cast it off that they might find Christ. For unless a person trusts in Jesus, he can in no way be saved.
35 - For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.
36 - For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
37 - Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
The Book of Exodus records the escape of the Jews from the slavery of Egypt, which Pharaoh being a ‘type’ of Satan, is a picture of God’s final generation escaping the clutches of the ‘god of this age’. There is in Exodus a series of plagues that befall Egypt... which are mirrored in the Book of Revelation when God destroys the Satanic led Kingdoms of this World, especially when Antichrist’s ‘New World Order’ reigns. The Prophet Micah recognised this when He saw the Second Coming of our Lord, even before Jesus had appeared the first time as a sacrifice for sin. Then he saw a ‘tiny few’, whom having previously hid themselves in the caves and holes of the ground, crawled out to the devastations of a judged Earth, shortly before Christ set-up His coming Kingdom.
15 - According to the days of thy coming out of the land of Egypt will I show him marvellous things.
16 - The nations shall see and be confounded at all their might: they shall lay their hand upon their mouth, their ears shall be deaf.
17 - They shall lick the dust like a serpent, they shall move out of their holes like worms of the earth: they shall be afraid of the Lord our God, and shall fear because of thee.
Scripture is clear that a ‘tiny-tiny few’ shall indeed survive with an elect Jews, to repopulate a devastated Earth, Jesus made this quite clear when He said...
And if those days [The Tribulation and wrath of God] had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect [Jews] those days will be cut short.
But rather than trying to save ‘this mortal body’ that shall grow old and decay, why not accept Christ today whom having then renewed your Spirit shall also bless you with a new immortal and incorruptible body upon His return?
1 Corinthians 15:51-56
51 - Behold, I shew you a mystery; We [Christians] shall not all sleep [all die before He returns], but we shall all be changed,
52 - In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 - For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 - So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 - O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56 - The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
Why try to survive the coming catastrophe, just so you can enter Christ’s Kingdom subject to mortality, when you can reign with Him over a repopulated Earth immortal and glorified?
They will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years. [During the Millennium]
The Christian life is hard at times, but Christ is preparing us for something vastly better, so why not accept Christ and enter His Kingdom with an everlasting joy?
1 Corinthians 6:2-3
2 - Do you not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
3 - Know you not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
1 Corinthians 2:9
However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” the things God has prepared for those who love him
