Pondering once again the ‘Bone of Contention’ Satan has with God regarding our Species, I’m led to believe that it relates partly to our worthiness or otherwise, to reign and exercise authority over the Earth. Considering these issues has brought me to the conclusion that although Satan and the World hates the Church, our very presence assures them of their temporal continuance, yet soon departure of their imminent ruin.
To better explain myself it might be beneficial to consider the destruction of Sodom, whose values once mirrored the values held by the World today.
49 - “ ‘Now this was the sin of our sister Sodom: She and her daughters [villages] were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.
50 - They were haughty and did detestable things [deviant sexual acts] before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.
One of the angels sent to destroy Sodom revealed a restriction by which he was bound, when he said to Lot…
“Flee quickly, because I cannot do anything until you reach safety.”
The angel was somewhat perturbed by Lot’s dithering, because although he had been commanded to destroy Sodom, he could not do so while Lot remained in it, knowing full well that God will not destroy the righteous with the wicked. This was the very basis of Abraham’s argument in the preceding chapter, where he strove with God in an effort save his Nephew Lot who dwelt in Sodom…
22 - The men [Angels] turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord.
23 - Then Abraham approached him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?
24 - What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?
25 - Far be it from you to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”
This truth, that God will not destroy the righteous with the wicked is reiterated in the New Testament, where we are told that…
1 Thessalonians 5:9
God has not appointed us [the Church] to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
Therefore, just as Lot’s presence was a shield against the wrath of God to Sodom, so is the presence of the ‘true’ Church in this World. And just as the removal of Lot from Sodom heralded their imminent demise, likewise will the removal of the Church from Planet Earth signal the destruction of this evil generation.
28 - “It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building.
29 - But on the [very same] day that Lot left Sodom, fire and sulphur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.
As the World today, Sodom foolishly assumed that either God’s patience endurance was a sign that He accepted their sinful lifestyle, or that He did not exist, though the very Creation speaks of His handiwork…
When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, the hearts of the people are filled with schemes to do wrong.
Yet they do not know nor do they understand that on the very day that the shield of the Earth is removed, their deeds shall be rewarded and nothing left undone, for…
He has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man [Jesus] whom he has ordained…
Yet the ears of the Lord are ever attentive that He might hear the cry of those who being convicted of sin, cry-out to a merciful God and receive forgiveness through faith in Christ Jesus, and His redemptive work upon the Cross.
16 - Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in His presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honoured His name.
17 - “On the day when I act,” says the Lord Almighty, “they will be my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as a father has compassion and spares his son who serves him.
18 - And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.
For just as Lot before us we too are grieved by the lawless deeds that now surround us, deeds that having once partook of are now greatly ashamed.
2 Peter 2:7-8
7 - And if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless
8 - (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)
And knowing that God did not spare the ancient World, but having secured Noah in an Ark took them all away, we are convinced that He shall not spare this World either.
Therefore we make ourselves ready, knowing not at what hour our Lord shall come, whom having been found faithful shall receive our reward when He establishes His promised Kingdom upon this Earth, shortly after it has been purged by fire from all that offends.
44 - So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
45 - “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time?
46 - It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.
47 - Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.
Yet Scripture confirms that some will let slip.
48 - But suppose that servant [Worldly Christian] is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’
49 - and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.
50 - The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of.
51 - He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Currently I do not feel competent enough to argue if a believer can lose their salvation or not, as some affirm the above text implies. However I am convinced of this:
That those believers found practicing sin upon His return shall have to face the horrors of a ‘Tribulation’ too terrible to mention, and quite possibly the wrath of God that follows it.
“If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them.”
Therefore, although I am far from perfect I’m always encouraged to stay close to the Lord in these final hours before the storm breaks… that I might be spared such a terrifying experience.
Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
Therefore if gazing down I perceive that my garments have become stained, and my feet soiled by walking through this World, coming to my senses I immediately fall to my knees in repentance, reminded that:
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
For however inconvenient it may appear, it is far better that we seek to be cleansed while it is still call ‘day’, than be refined under the sackcloth skies of a coming tribulation.
Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.
For certainly an enumerable number shall be saved during those years, though such a salvation shall come at a frightening cost.
13 - Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes, who are they, and where did they come from?”
14 - I answered, “Sir, you know.” And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Who just as the injured fallen on a field of battle are forced to accept the scalpel without anaesthetic, so those saved in the ‘Great Tribulation’ shall enter salvation through terrible persecution, and a martyrs death.
They triumphed over him [Antichrist] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
And least we forget, unable to endure the severity of those days that shall burn as an oven, multitudes will cease from trusting Christ, to trust in an Antichrist to save them from a perceived threat, then approaching the Earth.
People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.
As you might have guessed, I am persuaded that a great sign shall soon appear in the heaven’s heralding the end of this age, which the World shall perceive as a coming catastrophe that can be averted if only they would unite under one head [Antichrist]. Even the harbinger that signals the removal and redemption of God’s people and the quick destruction of those fortified against Him. Who shall neither know nor understand that their shield of defence [The Church] has been taken away, and they left defenceless with no hostages to stave-off God’s hammer.
But know this, that if the goodman of the house [Satan] had known in what watch the thief [Jesus] would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
In their moment of horror the wise shall be comforted while the foolish suffer, let us then be ever watchful that we should escape such a horrible fate.
20 - Come, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until His wrath has passed by.
21 - See, the Lord is coming out of his dwelling place to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed on it; the earth will conceal its slain no longer.
