● An Idol is nothing.
Although I meet fortnightly with like-minded friends, for a meal, study and praise… suffering with M.E. I have long ceased going to my old Church located some ten miles away, at least for the time being anyway. On the few occasions I have managed to stumble through the doors, I sit blurry eyed struggling to come to terms with the vibrancy of a lively and bustling Church. Yet every now and again I do manage to rally myself, encouraged on by Paul’s words to…
Not give-up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
However a few years ago now, prompted by the above text I ventured to the Church nestled at the centre of my village… thinking that if found accommodating, I might manage to become a regular. I decided to scout it out one day after lunch, when nobody was about, however I had only just approached the gates when all of my plans were dashed, a sign notifying me of Mass and other like Pagan rituals. And as I believe I may have mentioned before, was further disillusioned upon entering the Church when greeted by an alter, dedicated to a mini statue of Mary. This with the addition of a poster encouraging me to fill-out a prayer request, asking the statue to intercede before God on my behalf. Enraged, I thought to brave writing a card and placing it in the statue’s outstretched arms, declaring that…
1 Timothy 2:5
There is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,
However, although I could quote the verse easily enough, for the life of me I couldn’t remember the reference to it, and without my trusty Kindle at hand, left the ‘Idol’s Alter’ with a flea in my ear, and headed home. I was reminded of all of this when waking from a dream recently, where someone I care for was doubting God, because of something to do with a ‘Crystal ball’, instantly reminding me of Satan’s tactics…
2 Corinthians 2:11b
Because we are not unaware of his schemes.
● Satan bait’s his trap.
Think about it, just say I had left that prayer request, asking a mere statue for riches and had received a financial blessing… how ever small within the week. After which, to who do you think I would run to when in trouble? Why to that in whom I had learned to put my trust of cause, in this case the spirit lurking behind a statue of Mary decorated with scarlet and gold. Whom knowing that a statue is nothing, I had exalted to the position of a mediator between God and men.
1 Corinthians 10:20
But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice to, they sacrifice to devils and not to God: and I would not that you should have fellowship with devils.
You may dispute that asking an idol to bless you is idolatry, but I assure you that it differs little from the Pagans of old. They sacrificed their children, animals and goods for favour, power and respect… you adoration for gain. As they you have put an idol in the place of God, daring to believe that a mere lump of stone should hold favour with the Creator.
And this would not have been the end of it, but only the beginning… for as the farmer reaps his harvest from the earth which is blessed by the dew from heaven, so do the devils reap their harvest from among men, even the blessing endowed upon us from above. It matters not if you are ensnared by a religious icon, astrologer, medium, clairvoyant or crystal ball, only that it should fill its chamber’s with your treasures of joy, relationships, peace and finance. Yet if a stronger that he should appear, you shall be set free and he shall suffer torment, just as it is written…
6 - When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him.
7 - He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!”
8 - For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”
Knowing these things, seek not the favour of devils that lie, steal and destroy… but rather seek the only mediator appointed by God to stand between God and men.
● Moses, Once The Mediator of the Jews.
The earth quaked; The heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God; Sinai itself quaked at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
The Jews stood trembling in horror at the sight of Mount Horeb, when a Holy and terrible God descended, cloaked in a cloud of black smoke, lightnings and a burning flame. His voice rumbling with a thunder that shook its very foundations as peals of a trumpet pierced through the sky.
18 - When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear, and stayed at a distance
19 - and said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we shall die.”
In that moment those Jews didn’t just fear for their lives, but rather for their very souls. Because at the sight of perfect holiness, power and unlimited might their sinful predicament was suddenly realised, whom frozen with fear suddenly cried-out… as might the accused in the dock at the sight of unexpected, but damming evidence.
Have you ever watched a movie where you understood, if only for a moment that there was something more terrifying than death itself, and far more precious than this fleeting life? I have, especially in my pre-Christian days… and not only so but as many believers before me, have felt the horrid touch of a foul spirit, as it wrestled with me through the night. Even an entity that epitomises the dread sought by so many today in movies, Séances and Ouija boards calling them ‘entertainment’… not realising that for many they are but a foretaste of an eternity to come.
Therefore as the child killer before the parents or the murderer before the judge, these sinful Jews quaked in utter horror at the sight of a righteous, clean and perfect God, whom with their many excuses suddenly undone, earnestly begged Moses to stand as mediator between they and He. Who then standing in their place, conveyed to them God’s command to…
10 - Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft,
11- or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.
Who also informed them that in the latter days, God would raise-up from among them a prophet like unto himself, who would in like manner mediate between their descendants and a righteous God. With the dire warning that if they rejected that Prophet, they would have to stand alone and give an account for their fornications, child sacrifices, lies and ungodly deeds with no mediator between them and a holy God.
18 - I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in His mouth. He will tell them everything I command Him.
19 - I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the Prophet speaks in My name.
Luke leaves us in no doubt that this Jewish prophet is none other than Jesus, the promised mediator between, not just the Jews and God, but between God and all men when he said…
19 - Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
20 - and that He may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus.
21- Heaven must receive Him [for now], until the time comes for God to [return and] restore everything, as He promised long ago through His holy prophets.
22 - For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything He tells you.
23 - Anyone who does not listen to Him will be completely cut off from their people.’
Excuse your sins if you wish, and if God has bestowed upon you comeliness and beauty, drink deeply from the well of confidence reflecting back at you from your dressing room table. And if riches, recline and and take your rest upon a couch of confidence, as you feast your eyes upon a bulging bank statement, periodically gazing over to the ageing man working your land, in the biting wind of an early morn.
But if these you lack, seek-out for yourself a cunning spirit to speak to you through a medium, clairvoyant… or guides the pen of an astrologer. Yes make your vows of adoration before the idol, trinket or image and trust in them to save you… even in the entity that guides the lips of her peering into the Crystal.
But I tell you that the crystal is nothing and the is idol madness, and your beauty will have rotted in the grave and your money perished on the day that you to stand naked before a Holy and righteous God. And there having paid the price for sins which is death, will be unable to rise to life again… because you rejected God’s only provision for sin… His Son’s death upon a Cross in Judea. Where with your money flown and your beauty perished, shall not dare so much as lift your eyes to Him least your eternal punishment is multiplied.
11 - Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them.
12 - And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened.
And believe not what the Pagan’s teach, that you shall have chance again, for God has stated quite plainly that…
People are appoint to die ONCE, and after this to face the Judgment,
● Our Mediator
If you forget everything else I have written please remember this, and let it sink deeply into your heart…
That God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Would you suffer your only child to be rejected, spat at, beaten and stripped naked before your laughing neighbours, whom having nailed him to a Cross watched in delight, as his life ebbed away?
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me,
so far from my cries of anguish?
And this not to save some great leader, wonderful parent, honourable friend or loving spouse, but rather to spare any filthy sinner you might call to mind. But God did… such is His love for us sinners…
6 - For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 - For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die
8 - but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Have no confidence in fleeting beauty, money nor the the spirits that seek to ensnare you through the lips of the clairvoyant, cast into the bin that idol or trinket, and trust in them no more. Rather turn and put your trust in the Lord, the only acceptable mediator appointed to stand between God and men, then you can with all of the saints, having been cleansed by the precious blood of Jesus…
Approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that you may receive mercy and find grace to help you in your time of need.
Because the Father having asked His Son to lay down His life, Christ did not fail us. Therefore having been made right by His death, we can with Him who had never sinned, be raised from death to eternal life by the Father.
And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
Now if God raised His Son who died for us, how shall He not raise us who trusted in His death?
9 - Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!
10 - For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
For if the accuser should speak to you of sins past, and God hearing should seek them out of a book, finding your page He shall discover in brilliant red the Words “Christ crucified” stamped atop of your sins!
And if having stumbled slightly or fallen hard since you believed, do not fear but believe… for Christ’s death is sufficient for all those who trust in Him. Therefore…
1 John 1:9
Confess your sins [to God], because He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Cast your idols into the fire, and trust no longer in your wealth or fleeting youth, but sanctify yourself in the Lord and touch no more the accused thing. Be not defiled any longer by lying Spirits nor the Crystal, whose colours shift and shadows form the half truths that bind men to Devils. But rather trust in the Risen Christ who can not lie, but has said…
“I will never leave you; nor ever will I forsake you.”
Then that death you have long feared shall hold no bitterness, for your end will be wonderful, and you shall be given such an entrance into an endless life, so glorious, that if I should tell you of it a thousand times you still could not comprehend, though I laboured long and hard.
1 Corinthians 2:9
Because, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human mind has conceived, the things God has prepared for those who love him”
